Additional info/contents	Composed in the summer of 1989, Trail of Tears was composed to commemorate the 150th anniversary of that tragic event, despite a U.S. Supreme Court decision which favored the Five Civilized Tribes, President Andrew Jackson ordered federal troops to round up members of these tribes (Cherokees, Choctaws, Chickasaws, Creeks and Seminoles) and forcibly move them to what was then known as 'Indian Territory', present-day Oklahoma. On this tragic journey, which was conducted during the winter months of 1839-40, over 4,000 Native Americans perished from starvation, exhaustion and exposure to the elements.
