Additional info/contents	With the arrangement of the overture to the opera Mermaids of the Moldau by Wil van der Beek, the orchestra introduces a composer whose other pieces have all but disappeared: The Czech Josef Richard Rozkosny (1833-1913). Mermaids of the Moldau was a huge success during Rozkosny's lifetime, mainly due to the presence of fairytale motifs, hunting scenes, nature imitations, etc. - all popular themes in those days. In this overture, these themes abound. Smetana's influence is clearly recognizable: a comparison between his Die Moldau and Mermaids of the Moldau is inevitable, and surprising parallels can be found.
