Programme notes *: additional text

An idea, a falling quart, develops into the main motif of this work in the first few bars. In the somewhat longer introduction, the main motif is treated in a playful manner and various possibilities of use are tried out, from which a viable theme develops that presents itself as lively.
The second part is in contrasting triple time. The basis of this second melody is a change of the main motive. This time a rising sixth. The interesting and varied harmonies underline the contrast especially.
In the recapitulation, the first theme appears again, which leads to an inposant conclusion with some surprises.
