Additional info/contents Pegasus was a white horse with wings in Greek mythology.
His parents were Medusa and Poseidon, the god of the sea. The first part fanfare-like describes the power of the winged white horse: Pegasus carried lightning and thunder for Zeus, the father of the gods, and the Greek hero Bellerophon also fought on Pegasus's back against the Amazon riders and against the Chimera, a fire-breathing hybrid creature.
A quick allegro section describes Bellerophon's first encounter with Pegasus. A solo clarinet introduces the cocky main motif. Accompanied by the clatter of hooves, Bellerophon's ride on Pegasus is described. After an increasingly loud transition, the first flight takes place. The horse flies higher and higher. This is followed by a quiet, spherical part: Because of his services, Zeus immortalized the faithful Pegasus as a constellation in the sky.
Unusual chord changes of increasing volume are followed by a radiant sound. The horse slowly sinks back to the ground. Accompanied by the clatter of hooves, the main melody builds again. The slightly slower fanfare part sounds again.
Today Pegasus is still considered the horse of heroes, poets and gods.
