Additional info/contents	When the Roman general Munatius Plancus founded the colony Raurica under Caesar around 44 B.C. in the area of the Celtic Rauricans, the city of Rome had grown since its beginnings in the 8th century B.C. into a powerful empire around the Mediterranean Sea. In 15 BC he commissioned the construction of the colony capital Augusta Raurica. During the following 200 years, the city developed into a metropolis with around 15,000 inhabitants. This was not least due to its location: here the north-south connections from Italy to the Rhineland and the west-east connection from Gaul to the Danube and to Rhaetia met the Rhine. In order to feed large settlements such as Augusta Raurica, flourishing agriculture was necessary. Even today, much is still unclear about Roman agriculture. Recent excavations, however, provide an insight into these. For example those in Pratteln: The remains of a Roman estate were found on Chästeliacher in the middle of the 19th century. The name Chästeli is derived from the Latin word castellum, in German "fortified complex". The work "Castellum" describes how one can imagine life at that time: The efforts of the workers in the field, the battles of the Romans against the Helvetians, but also the pompous, mighty buildings and fortifications. No detailed description is consciously given as to where which scene or which image is meant. The composer's aim is that each listener should let his or her own imagination run wild in order to come up with his or her own story about this music.
