Programme notes *: Since a phonograph probably sounded with a lot of background noise around 1890, Ziehrer added the regulation to the waltz that its introduction should include an imitation of the phonograph. Based on another note that certain bars are to be whistled "wrong", one can assume that Ziehrer deliberately wanted to reproduce the caricature of a phonograph with cheerful,'unsightly' sounding noises.
