Additional info/contents "Songs from Across the Water" was commissioned by the Pennsylvania Symphonic Winds, of which Phil Evans is founder and leader. Phil Evans is from the United Kingdom and played in the HM Royal Marines wind band for 25 years. He now lives in the USA and founded the Pennsylvania Symphonic Winds in 2008, which he gave the nickname “An American band with a British Accent” because he had the best of both wind band traditions wanted to unite countries together. For this reason, the composer Philip Sparke composed a suite of British folk songs with an American influence in the instrumentation, thus realizing the philosophy of the orchestral moniker.
The three movements, played without a break, are based on the following folk songs, which come from all areas of the British Isles:

The Three Ravens & The Cruiskeen Lawn; The Lark in the Clear Air; The Piper o’ Dundee & Men of Harlech;
