Additional info/contents Opening with a skillful description of the cityscape of New York, this work captures the excitement of a first experience in Manhattan. This leads to a "street scene” that begins with a laid-back blues theme on the alto saxophone, which is then taken up by the whole band and abruptly interrupted by faster music. This is followed by a passionate melody that depicts a sense of awe from the whole experience until the traveler passes by an open door of a jazz club. The alto sax again takes the lead but soon the "street music” returns, leading back to the opening material. A short coda brings this brilliantly entertaining composition to a close.
