Additional info/contents Pecos Pueblo (the Pecos tribe) was a large Indian tribe in the 16th century, like the Commanches and Apaches. These Indians were originally called Cicuye, but the Spanish called them "Pe-Kush" after a word from the Jemetz language. The European Christians wanted to missionize the Indians and built the large church 'Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles de Porcíuncula' (St. Mary's Church of the Angels of Porcíuncula). This church was completed in 1625. Unfortunately, this magnificent building was destroyed again in 1680 during the great Pueblo Revolution, which was the result of the discord and anger of the Indians against the reign of terror of the Spanish tyrants. The Europeans were driven out and every symbol of Christianity was destroyed. In the mid-1800s, natural disasters, famine and epidemics struck the Pecos population. There has been no Pecos community since 1838.
The music tells this story very clearly in three parts. After a short introduction, a rhythmic part begins that takes the listener into the exciting world of the Pecos Indians. The middle part brings a bit of calm and describes the beauty of the large church. The third and final part begins with war drums, representing the fury and victory of the Indians during the Pueblo Revolution. But the piece does not end tragically; On the contrary, the music suggests that the tradition of the Pecos people should live on because it is an important landmark in American history.
