Albert Loritz is a contemporary composer and arranger, known for his works for wind orchestra. One of his notable works is the "Toccata on E-F-C-H-A-D-E (Andante risoluto)", a composition that is both technically demanding and musically memorable. This toccata is in the spirit of modern wind orchestra literature and shows Loritz's innovative power and creativity.

The "Toccata on E-F-C-H-A-D-E" is based on a motivic core consisting of the notes E, F, C, B (B in German notations), A, D and E. This motif forms the basis for the entire composition and is presented in various forms and variations throughout the piece.

The work begins with a section held in the tempo Andante risoluto. This tempo suggests a determined but moderate movement, which gives the piece a certain gravity and seriousness. The Toccata is characterized by a free, almost improvisational structure, similar to traditional toccatas of the Baroque period. It consists of a series of contrasting sections characterized by dynamic and rhythmic changes. These sections are designed to make full use of both the technical skills of the musicians and the tonal possibilities of the wind orchestra.

The harmonic language of the Toccata is modern, using both tonal and modal elements. The main motif E-F-C-H-A-D-E is often presented in different harmonic contexts, resulting in surprising and interesting tonal turns. Melodically, the Toccata moves between lyrical passages and fast, virtuoso runs. Loritz uses the full range of a wind orchestra, skillfully deploying the various instrument groups to create different timbres and textures. The brass delivers powerful and majestic sounds, while the woodwinds provide delicate and agile lines. Percussion instruments support the rhythmic vitality of the piece.

The "Toccata on E-F-C-H-A-D-E" requires a high level of technical skill and musical expression from the musicians. Due to its complexity and dynamic range, it is often performed by advanced and professional wind orchestras. The work is suitable for performances in concert halls as well as competitions. The reception of the Toccata is positive, as it represents an exciting and challenging addition to the wind orchestra repertoire. Musicians and conductors appreciate the creative use of the motivic material and the innovative tonal effects that Loritz brings to the composition.
