Additional info/contents The small Sorbian people live in Lusatia (Saxony) in the border area with Poland. The Sorbs were able to preserve their language, a mixture between German and Polish, and their rich culture, especially in the field of music, until today.
At the beginning of his studies, Hans Hütten dealt intensively with Sorbian folklore, which survived German Romanticism almost unscathed. He was attracted by the many melodic arcs, motifs and songs in modal keys, which he orchestrated differently, shortened or lengthened according to his own judgement, and which he completely changed musically with contrapuntal means. The themes come from the Cottbus area and the Spreewald, except for the end. Hütten constructed this work in such a way that all the characteristics of Sorbian music resonate.
