Additional info/contents Greensleeves is an English song whose melody has been one of the most popular in history since the Elizabethan era. From the 17th century onwards, the melody was also used in various songs for Christmas and New Year, first appearing in 1642 as a spiritual song for New Year's Day under the title The old yeare now gone is fled. In the 19th century, several lyrics to the melody were spread, each ending with the words “On Christmas Day in the morning”. The English song What Child Is This? by William Chatterton Dix (1837–1898) is today the best-known Christmas carol, which follows the melody of Greensleeves.

"Greensleeves" is a traditional English folk song that is believed to have originated in the 16th century. The song tells of an unhappy love and is known for its melancholic melody and its characteristic 6/8 time. Over the years, "Greensleeves" has been recorded and performed in various arrangements and styles by many artists.

The "Greensleeves Fantasy" is an arrangement of the song for wind band by Andrew Balent. In this version, the traditional song is wrapped in a new musical guise and given new harmonic and rhythmic elements. The arrangement begins with a slow and soulful introduction in which the melody is introduced by various instrument groups in the orchestra. The tempo then increases and the song develops into a lively and rhythmic dance. The "Greensleeves Fantasy" is a successful example of how traditional folk music can be presented and further developed in a new musical context.
