Additional info/contents "The Saga of Störtebeker" describes the legendary story of the notorious North Sea pirate Klaus Störtebeker. The story takes place at the time of the Hanseatic League, in which trade and the first signs of capitalism and a global market economy made the bourgeoisie increasingly stronger and slowly but surely disempowered the nobility. Klaus Störtebeker and his “Likkedeler” (equal sharers) form the counterpart to this. As the “Robin Hood” of the seas, they hijack Hanseatic ships and distribute the trade goods (e.g. gold, bread, cloth and herrings) to those in need.

In a major sea battle, Störtebeker's cog, the "Bunte Kuh", is sunk by a large Hanseatic fleet and the privateers are arrested. During his execution on the Grasbrook near Hamburg, Störtebeker finally makes a crazy bet with the mayors of Hamburg. So everyone from his team who he can walk past after being beheaded should be released. And so, according to the legend, Klaus Störtebeker rises up without a head, to the horror of those watching, and walks past 12 of his men until he finally falls down.

Amid the wide sounds of the wind orchestra, "The Saga of Störtebeker" rises like a mighty wave from the sea. Composed by Dominik Wagner, a master of his craft, this piece tells the epic story of the North Sea pirate Klaus Störtebeker in sonic splendor and drama.

The music takes listeners on a journey across the stormy waters of the North Sea, accompanied by the orchestra's horns, trumpets and timpani. The melody rises and falls like the waves while the strings capture the emotions and passions of Störtebeker's crew.

The composition is a tribute to the bravery and spirit of freedom that Klaus Störtebeker and his companions embodied. Majestic fanfares and powerful harmonies bring the battles of the high seas to life, while quieter passages capture moments of reflection and camaraderie.

"The Saga of Störtebeker" is more than just a musical representation of a historical figure. It is an experience that unleashes the imagination and takes listeners on an adventure through the rough seas and the wild freedom of the North Sea pirates. Through the mastery of Dominik Wagner and the virtuosity of the wind orchestra, the legend of Klaus Störtebeker is brought to life in all its splendor and intensity.
