Victor-Marie Vicomte Hugo, born on February 26, 1802 in Besançon and died on May 22, 1885 in Paris, was one of the most important French writers of the 19th century. He was not only an outstanding novelist, playwright and poet, but also an influential politician and committed human rights activist. Hugo is particularly known for his novels "Les Misérables" and "Notre-Dame de Paris" (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame), but his lyrical work also has immense significance.

Hugo was the youngest of three children of the officer Joseph Léopold Sigisbert Hugo and Sophie Trébuchet. Already at a young age he showed remarkable literary talent. In 1822 he published his first volume of poetry, "Odes et poésies diverses", and quickly established himself as an important representative of the Romantic movement in France.

His writing career was closely linked to his political commitment. Hugo was initially a supporter of the monarchy, but developed into a passionate defender of the Republic and human rights. His political convictions led him into exile several times, especially during the reign of Napoleon III.

In addition to his famous novels, Hugo wrote a large number of poems dealing with themes such as love, freedom, justice and the divine. He is considered one of the most important poets in the history of French literature.

The poem "Millions, millions, et millions d'étoiles!"

"Millions, millions, et millions d'étoiles!" (Millions, millions and millions of stars!) is one of Hugo's lyrical works that reflects his fascination with the universe and human existence. The poem testifies to Hugo's deep connection with nature and the cosmos, as well as his ability to express complex philosophical thoughts in powerful and moving verse.

In this poem, Hugo describes the infinite sea of stars and draws parallels between the infinite vastness of the universe and the inner worlds of the human soul. The stars symbolize both eternity and transience, the majesty of creation and the smallness of the individual.

The repeated use of the words "Millions, millions, et millions d'étoiles!" reinforces the sense of infinity and emphasizes the immense number of stars that illuminate the night sky. This anaphora creates a hypnotic rhythm and makes the reader feel the overwhelming size of the universe.

Hugo's poem can be read as a meditation on the relationship between man and the universe. It invites the reader to reflect on their own existence and its meaning in the face of the immeasurable vastness of space. The stars represent the unattainable and incomprehensible, which nevertheless exerts a ceaseless influence on human life and thought.

The poem is also an expression of Hugo's pantheism - the idea that God is present in everything, especially in nature. The stars as divine lights symbolize the connection between the earthly and the divine, between man and the creator.

Victor-Marie Vicomte Hugo was a versatile writer and thinker whose works are still of great importance today. His poem "Millions, millions, et millions d'étoiles!" shows his ability to capture profound philosophical and spiritual themes in poetic form. It remains an impressive testimony to his literary mastery and his reflections on human existence in the face of the infinite cosmos.
