Additional info/contents The German composer Thorsten Wollmann has lived in Thailand for many years, but always likes to return to his southern German homeland. Many things that he did not appreciate so consciously in the past he now perceives quite differently during his visits, especially the European landscape and the culture rich in tradition. He therefore likes to incorporate these aspects into his works. In "The Rhine Journey", Wollmann describes the course of the Rhine from the Swiss Alps over the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen, through the Rhine Valley with its magnificent castles, until the imposing river finally flows into the North Sea. In this work, Wollmann confirms his reputation as a sound painter and creates a beautiful sound painting of the Rhine in a very colourful and pictorial tonal language.

The Rhine, one of the longest and most important rivers in Europe, rises in the picturesque Swiss Alps and crosses numerous countries on its way. From its source to its mouth in the North Sea, the Rhine impresses with a variety of landscapes, historic cities and impressive waterfalls. It rises in the Oberalp Pass area in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. Surrounded by the majestic Swiss Alps, the river here begins as a small mountain stream. This section of the Rhine is characterized by alpine meadows, snow-capped peaks and crystal-clear water.

One of the most impressive highlights on the Rhine's path is the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen, the largest waterfall in Europe. Here the river plunges with tremendous force over rocky cliffs into the depths. The spray and the thundering sound of the water create an impressive natural scene that attracts numerous visitors every year.

The Rhine runs through Germany and presents a landscape of impressive beauty. Vineyards, half-timbered houses and the characteristic castles along the Middle Rhine Valley give this section of the river a romantic charm. The Loreley Rocks, a narrow spot in the river, are famous for their legends and offer breathtaking views.

As the Rhine travels through Germany, it passes historic cities such as Cologne, Mainz and Koblenz. The banks of the river are lined with impressive cathedrals, picturesque old towns and cultural treasures. Cologne Cathedral, the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz and the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz are just a few of the numerous highlights along the Rhine.

The Rhine ends its journey in the Netherlands, where it flows into the North Sea. The mighty river, which previously flowed through the Alps, medieval castles and historic cities, now carries its water into the vastness of the sea. The estuary region is characterized by large port cities such as Rotterdam and Antwerp, which play an important role in international trade.

The journey along the Rhine from its source in the Swiss Alps to its mouth in the North Sea not only offers breathtaking natural scenery, but also insights into the history and culture of Europe. The river combines majestic mountain landscapes, impressive waterfalls, medieval castles and vibrant cities to create a unique narrative that reflects the diversity of the continent. The Rhine therefore remains not just a river, but a symbol of the cultural and geographical diversity of Europe.
