Additional info/contents Pecos Pueblo (the Pecos tribe) was a large Indian tribe in the 16th century, like the Commanches and Apaches. These Indians were originally called Cicuye, but the Spanish called them "Pe-Kush" after a word from the Jemetz language. The European Christians wanted to missionize the Indians and built the large church 'Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles de Porcíuncula' (St. Mary's Church of the Angels of Porcíuncula). This church was completed in 1625. Unfortunately, this magnificent building was destroyed again in 1680 during the great Pueblo Revolution, which was the result of the discord and anger of the Indians against the reign of terror of the Spanish tyrants. The Europeans were driven out and every symbol of Christianity was destroyed. In the mid-1800s, natural disasters, famine and epidemics struck the Pecos population. There has been no Pecos community since 1838.
The music tells this story very clearly in three parts. After a short introduction, a rhythmic part begins that takes the listener into the exciting world of the Pecos Indians. The middle part brings a bit of calm and describes the beauty of the large church. The third and final part begins with war drums, representing the fury and victory of the Indians during the Pueblo Revolution. But the piece does not end tragically; On the contrary, the music suggests that the tradition of the Pecos people should live on because it is an important landmark in American history.

The term "Pecos Pueblo" refers to a historic site and former Native American settlement in what is now the U.S. state of New Mexico. The Pecos Pueblo was a significant center of Puebloan culture and played an important role in Native American history as well as in the colonial period and western expansion of the United States.

Located in the Pecos River Valley, east of today's city of Santa Fe, the Pecos Pueblo was one of the largest and most important Pueblo Indian settlements in the southwestern United States. At its peak in the 15th and 16th centuries, the Pecos Pueblo was estimated to have had several thousand residents and served as a commercial and religious center.

The archaeological remains of the Pecos Pueblo include a number of adobe-like ruins, including dwellings, kivas (ceremonial rooms), warehouses, and other structures. These ruins provide insight into the way of life, architecture and social organization of the Pueblo culture.

An important historical episode in the history of the Pecos Pueblo was the arrival of the first European explorers and settlers to the region in the 16th century. Spanish conquistadors led by Francisco Vásquez de Coronado visited the Pecos Pueblo in their search for gold and other riches in 1540. This encounter marked the beginning of European colonization and cultural exchange between the Pueblo Indians and Europeans.

Over the course of the colonial period and subsequent centuries, the Pecos Pueblo suffered numerous changes and conflicts. The effects of European colonization, including disease, war, and the forced relocation of Native Americans to missions, ultimately led to the decline of the Pecos Pueblo and other Native American communities in the region.

Today, the Pecos Pueblo is a significant archaeological site and a National Historic Landmark. It is managed by the National Park Service and is open to visitors. The Pecos Pueblo Ruins provide an opportunity to learn more about the rich history and culture of the Pueblo Indians, as well as the encounters between Native Americans and Europeans in North America.

Overall, the Pecos Pueblo is a fascinating historical site that offers insights into Native American history and culture, as well as the complexities of relationships between indigenous peoples and European colonists. It remains an important symbol of the diversity and richness of American history and culture.
