Additional info/contents Kees Vlak paints impressive sound pictures of a fantastic future in the overture Lord of Seven Seas.
An attractive and fascinating work for good upper-level orchestras.

It is the year 3000. Space travel determines the connection from Earth to the planets. Wars between the peoples on Earth no longer exist. Only a single, huge spaceship that can navigate both above and below the water monitors the oceans.
This ship, the 'Lord of Seven Seas', is a hundred times larger than the 'Nautilus' or the 'Titanic' and of course cannot be compared with a ship of our day.
In the introduction to the overture, the giant ship is introduced by means of a musical style that is somewhat reminiscent of science fiction space series.
This is followed by a fragment dominated by rain and storm, which has similarities with the saga of the "Flying Dutchman".
The middle section is in the form of a barcarole. In the depths of the Arctic Ocean, the ship investigates the fauna. The people on board enjoy the silence under water and the diversity and beauty of the animal world.
Finally, in the last part, the majestic giant ship rises above the surface of the water and flies from one ocean to another. The grandiose ending once again paints an impressive picture of the incomparable sight of the Lord of Seven Seas.
With the expressive and stylistic means of a contemporary tonal language, Kees Vlak describes the voyages and adventures of this spaceship of the future in the overture.
