Composer Sparke, Philip
Difficulty level 4
Evaluation level of countries A4 (Austrian D level); C4 (Swiss 1st class); D5 (German highest level)
Duration 10:20
Additional info/contents Commissioned for the "Musikpreis Grenchen 1990", a contest for new music in Switzerland.

The 3-movement work begins with the overture. It sounds light and with a driving tempo. Lively 16th movements lead to the main theme. The bold second theme has a contrasting character through accents and articulation.

In the second movement "Entr'Acte" the tempo chosen by the conductor gives the soloists space to make music. Eighth notes played portato accompany the solo and a well controlled dynamic leads to an effective climax.

The concluding finale, like the first movement, stands in a brisk tempo and quotes the overture again towards the end.
