"Heinrich von Kleist, one of the most important German playwrights of the 19th century, left the world a rich legacy of literary works. Among his important plays, "Das Käthchen von Heilbronn" stands out, a work that not only reflects the romantic era, but also was brought to life musically by a specially composed overture for wind orchestra by Volkmar Müller-Deck.

"Heinrich von Kleist's "The Käthchen von Heilbronn", also known as "Penthesilea", takes the audience into a world full of passion, love and intrigue. The story follows the protagonist Käthchen, a young woman who is haunted by prophetic visions and in a tangled love story becomes entangled. The play, set in a medieval setting, explores the themes of fate, love and heroic self-discovery. The play is a prime example of the romantic literature of the time. Kleist uses romantic elements such as the supernatural, mysterious visions and the power of love to create a fascinating atmosphere. The characters are heavily influenced by symbols and archetypal figures, which gives the piece a deeper metaphysical meaning.

Volkmar Müller-Deck, a renowned German composer of the 20th century, created his own musical interpretation of "Das Käthchen von Heilbronn" in the form of an overture for wind orchestra. His composition is characterized by powerful fanfares, melodic lines and dramatic climaxes. The music reflects the intensity and emotionality of the drama. Müller-Deck succeeds in capturing the central motifs of the play musically. The overture serves as a sonic introduction to the world of “Heilbronn,” capturing the tension, romance and supernatural of the piece. The powerful brass sections and dramatic crescendos reflect the conflicts and climaxes of the plot.
