This composition is a sensitive tribute to the superb Hungarian capital, Budapest. This musical fresco veritabel is composed of four movements. The first movement depicts the ancient Buda which, perched on the hills on the right bank of the Danube, dominates a wonderful natural site that it seems to want to protect serenely. The second movement evokes folk music through a czardas that restores warmth, generosity and conviviality, giving the listener an insight into the atmosphere of community life. The third movement takes place along the Danube. Immersed in his thoughts, the composer now lets his imagination wander and recalls the great events that have marked the history of Budapest. An evasive theme lyrically evokes the many and often painful invasions suffered by the city over the centuries. The Hungarian spirit is revealed in the last movement, which takes place on a variety of dance tunes, offering an image of the hope cultivated by the people of this country, and leaving the listener with an impression of intense happiness.
