Programme notes *: additional text

The "Little Suite" was originally written as a quartet for 2 trumpets, horns and baritone. The present arrangement is based on the four-part original and is therefore variable, i.e. playable from four voices.
The dynamic markings forte and piano at the beginning of the work refer to the repetition; it should be played forte the first time and piano the second time.
In order to lend the piece different timbres, individual parts can also be performed as solos; there are absolutely no limits to the conductor's creativity.
While the first movement is kept very simple, movements 2 and 3 make considerable demands on young musicians in the areas of rhythm and intonation.
The "Little Suite" is a classical work which can find its place in every programme of a youth orchestra as an antithesis to various pop music arrangements.
