Composer Cesarini, Franco
Opus no. op.12b
Difficulty level 3
Duration 10:00
Additional info/contents The Pastorale de Provence is a suite in four tempi, originally composed by Franco Cesarini for wind orchestra, and intended as a tribute to a great Provençal composer, Darius Milhaud.
The piece is rich in musical references and the titles of this suite - La villageoise (The Villager), Le petit berger (The Little Shepherd), La princesse (The Princess) and Le lutin (The Wild Catcher) are inspired by the French composers of the 18th century who often used descriptive titles to emphasise the character of their compositions.
Another important aspect of this work relates to the form of the various movements. Each movement takes up an old dance: the first movement a ronde, the second a musette, the third a pavane and the fourth a farandole.
