Programme notes *: "Overture of a New Life" begins with a short festive fanfare, which dynamically leads into the first part of the composition. This main section is characterised by an eight-bar theme juxtaposed with two contrasting melodies. As in a rondo, these musical elements alternate several times. In the middle section, a lullaby spreads out, reminiscent of Johannes Brahms. Protected by the whole family, this young person should find his way into life. A colourful harmonic structure shows that this path into life can be varied and colourful. In the recapitulation, the rondo-like structure appears again. In a grand tonal finale, the themes of the first part are superimposed, leading to an impressive climax.
