Additional info/contents At festivals and celebrations a certain dress code is often expected. These are often unspoken rules and regulations on dress codes. Sometimes it is not clear which dress code applies. The composition of the same name by Thomas Asanger tries to express this phenomenon musically. Right at the beginning the main theme a is introduced with a solemn character. This is followed by a mystical communication between the instrumentalists and soft whispers about the dress code: "Well, what are you wearing today? Let yourself be surprised what the young musicians will have agreed on.

Programme notes *: additional text

The term dress code refers to rules and regulations for the desired clothing in private, social, cultural and business environments. The term is also used to refer to rules concerning clothing that do not exist by law or decree, but by softer factors: by convention, by the need for conformity, by tacit agreement, by social consensus (or consensus within a social group) or by expectations, e.g. of an organiser or an employer.

In restaurants, for example, workwear enables the distinction between waiter and guest to be made, just as it identifies a railway employee as a contact person, or a military man by his uniform. The dress code also defines social spaces (compulsory wearing of uniforms and tailcoats, traditional costumes, religious habit and veils of the virgins, priestly dress, and in some countries also membership of a caste).

Today, dress codes in the sense of regulations exist more in the context of events or in working life. At events, dress codes are intended to create a special, usually festive atmosphere. The desired type of clothing is sometimes indicated on invitations, but often it is tacitly assumed that the appropriate dress code is observed. In casinos, for example, there is often a dress code that requires male visitors to wear a jacket and tie.
