Additional info/contents This work is based on the story of Dionysos, the god of wine. It depicts village life in the valley of Mount Olympus. A fight disturbs cheerful dancing at the wine festival and the music becomes increasingly dominated by the main theme that depicts Dionysus himself.
This impressive programmatic work is suitable for concerts or contests, and offers challenges throughout the music.

Programme notes *: additional text

Dionysus is a god of wine, joy, grapes, fertility and ecstasy in the Greek world of gods. He was also called Bromios or Bakchos or Bacchus ("the sprout") by the Greeks and Romans because of the noise his entourage made.
According to the most famous story, Dionysus is the son of Zeus and Semele. In human form Zeus had a secret affair with Semele, the daughter of King Kadmos of Thebes. It is said that the jealous Hera persuaded Semele in a disguise to ask Zeus to show her his true form as a proof of love. Zeus then showed himself to her as lightning and burned her. Since she had already been pregnant with Dionysus, Zeus had taken her child with her. He taught himself a deep wound and sewed the unripe foetus into his own thigh. After three months he opened it again and produced Dionysus. Dionysus is therefore called the twice born. With this second birth by Zeus his divinity and immortality is founded.
