Programme notes *: Ruf vom Similaun - Fanfare for the Iceman was written for the 20th anniversary of the discovery of the glacier mummy "Ötzi". The work opens with a striking fanfare. This is followed by the main theme, delivered in a calm character by the wood. This is followed by a lively intermediate section in a somewhat faster tempo. In order to express the alpine character of the Schnals Valley and the Similaun, a theme similar to a sage appears here, played by flugelhorns and horns. After the opening fanfare is heard again, the work moves on to the final section, in which the main theme is performed powerfully and radiantly this time.
