The story of a country girl who falls in love with the dashing, composing German master and bakes at her aunt's in Vienna a sheet of music with the melody of the march, which the court is reluctant to take note of, into a salty stalk for the emperor. The whole thing is revealed, the aunt loses her title as purveyor to the court and, as in the fairy tale, the girl manages to visit the emperor, to reconcile. The march is graciously accepted, the aunt is again purveyor to the court and nothing stands in the way of their happiness.

"Die Frühjahrsparade" is an operetta by the Austrian composer Robert Stolz. The overture to the operetta begins with a slow, majestic intro dominated by the brass. This is followed by a faster section that has a cheerful, lively character.

The music changes to a lyrical section played by a solo instrument. This section is characterised by a gentle, romantic mood and contrasts with the previous sections.

The overture then returns to a faster, livelier tempo dominated by the wind instruments and percussion. The section is characterised by a joyful, dance-like character, evoking the anticipation of the operetta. The piece ends with a slow intro that brings the musical pieces to a majestic, celebratory close.

Overall, the overture to the operetta The Spring Parade demonstrates the musical variety and charm found in operetta and prepares the listener for an entertaining and joyful performance.
