Additional info/contents	The Austrian Brass Band Youth awarded five commissioned compositions for the 5th Austrian Youth Wind Orchestra Competition, which took place in Linz in October 2011. The commission for a work in the DJ level went to Armin Kofler and thus Schmelzende Riesen was created. The idea behind the title and the work is global warming, which is also noticeable in Central Europe, not least through the retreat of the alpine glaciers. The work begins with a quiet, majestic part that reflects the majesty of the glaciers. The fast middle section describes the exciting ride with a team of sledge dogs across the expanses of the Arctic. The transition to the last part is abrupt. The extent of climate change suddenly becomes apparent. This is followed by a kind of "lamentation" of the glaciers, which only fades into a more optimistic tone at the end of the work with the hope of a better future through future generations.
