Additional info/contents	A barcarole (from Italian barca: barque, boat) was originally a Venetian gondola or boatman's song in 6/8 or 12/8 time. The melodies of barcaroles are quiet in character. The underlying unusual beat creates the impression of a swaying movement in the melody, reminiscent of the rocking of a gondola in the canals of Venice. This very well-known barcarole opens Act 4 of the opera The Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach.
