Programme notes *: Inevitably in connection with Voest one thinks of steel and iron. As I did not want programmatic music, and yet I always had a connection to steel in my mind when composing, I used FE, the chemical name for iron, as a harmonic and melodic design element, as these letters produce the intervals major seventh and minor second in music.
