The Arthusian legend is set against the background of real events in the 5th and 6th centuries AD, but it adapts this late antique scenario to medieval thinking: Britain's rulers (in the legend they are kings) are at loggerheads with each other, the country is threatened by Saxons and Picts. The former patrons, the Romans, have withdrawn, leaving the island's defence to the Romanised inhabitants. Their "High King" is Ambrosius Aurelianus, his advisor and friend the druid Merlin (legendary surrounded by an aura of mystery), whose father is a spirit being. Merlin was also the one who built the stone circle in Stonehenge. A heavenly sign in the shape of a dragon tells him that Ambrose will soon die and Uther Pendragon (head of the dragon) will succeed him. Merlin announces this event to Uther and promises him a son with outstanding power.

The fascinating saga of King Arthur and his castle Camelot is a timeless tale that has captivated mankind for centuries. This legend is a symbol of chivalry, bravery, love and the pursuit of noble ideals. The castle of Camelot and the Round Table around which King Arthur's knights gathered are central elements of this tale, which continues to capture people's imaginations and hearts today.

1 The image of Camelot itself that runs through the narrative is like a fascinating backdrop from another world. The majestic gates, the imposing towers and the magnificent gardens give the impression of an idealised castle that stands like a protective wall between the real world and the realm of legends. Camelot becomes the meeting place of brave knights, heroes and magical beings, and its splendour reflects the grandeur of King Arthur's kingdom.

2. 'King Arthur': The majestic arrival of King Arthur at Camelot is a moment of great grandeur. The description of his presence underlines his royal dignity, wisdom and charisma. King Arthur is portrayed as a shining leader who gathers his knights around him with pride. His role as a legendary king and inspirational leader is emphasised through the music and narration.

3. "Merlin the Wizard": The mood becomes haunting as the powerful wizard Merlin makes his appearance. His mischievous spells and mysterious abilities add an air of mystery to the narrative. Merlin is a symbol of the connection between the magical and the real world. His presence adds an extra layer of intrigue and mystery to the story.

4. "Lancelot and Guinevere": The romantic duet between Lancelot and Guinevere reveals the complicated love story between the noble knight and the queen. Their forbidden love contrasts with the high chivalry and moral standards of Arthurian legend. The music evokes the emotional depth of their relationship and conveys the back and forth between passion and a sense of duty.

5 "Knights of the Round Table": The triumphant climax of the piece is found in the depiction of the Knights of the Round Table galloping proudly into battle. This powerful depiction of bravery, unity and common striving embodies the virtues that the knights of Arthurian legend stand for. Their heroic efforts give the narrative an epic conclusion and remind us of the timeless importance of cohesion and courage.

The Arthurian legend and the castle of Camelot are not just a story from times past, but a symbol of values and ideals that are still relevant today. The musical representation of this legend in the different parts of the play conveys the complexity of the Arthurian legend and immerses us in a world where chivalry, bravery and love form the basis of an inspiring and timeless narrative.
