Programme notes *: additional text

A festive introduction opens the work and is intended to get people in the mood for the forthcoming celebrations.

The first part of the work is written in the style of Prof. Banco: lively, dynamic, optimistic and carefree. The brisk bass line reminds one of a locomotive. This impression is reinforced by interjections in the wooden register. This "musical locomotive" is, like Gerhart Banco, unstoppable. Determined and straightforward she (he) goes her musical way and leads to the actual main part.

The melodic material of this part has its origin in the festive introduction. The song "Es wird in hundert Jahren wieder so ein Frühling sein" (It will be spring again in a hundred years), which the jubilarian worked into his great concert march Auf alten und neuen Pfaden (On old and new paths), is used as a rhythmic quotation and refined by a motif from the same work.

The first theme continues with verve, reminding the listener again of the birthday celebration and the festive introductory music.
