Composer Schneider, Hermann J.
Arranger Rundel, Siegfried
Difficulty level 2+
Duration 2:23
Additional info/contents The "unmistakably light-footed momentum" of the marches of Hermann Josef Schneider (1862-1921) undoubtedly contributed to the fact that they exerted a formative influence on the Austrian military march. Even in Sweden a march by him became an assigned troop march. Schneider was active in his home town of Saaz for a good thirty years, but he never held the position of military bandmaster. He is therefore one of the few civil bandmasters of his time who have secured a permanent place in the marching music heaven of the Danube Monarchy. It is thanks to the music publisher, composer and arranger Siegfried Rundel that he finally brought the "Archduke Albrecht Defilement March", which is in use in Sweden as a parade march of the Jämtland Military Police Regiment (IR 5), back to his ancestral homeland, for here he had incomprehensibly fallen completely into oblivion. Indeed, the march was to become an asset in the core repertoire of Central European marches. The piece commemorates Archduke Albrecht of Austria, Duke of Teschen (1817-1895), who was a great support to Emperor Franz Josef I due to his military position and other activities.
