Additional info/contents In September 2011, the "2nd Sepp Thaler Days" were held in Auer, on the basis of which the Association of South Tyrolean Music Bands announced a composition competition with the aim of promoting new brass music works with reference to old folk songs. In this entry, entitled "Ålm", the composer arranged the Seiser folk song "Auf der Ålm" in as varied a form as possible. The basic idea of the work was an alpine hike. Accordingly, a peaceful morning mood is described at the beginning. The moving middle part describes the not only idyllic sides of the mountains. In the triumphant final part the folk song sounds almost unchanged and conveys the satisfying feeling of returning safe and sound after an exciting hike.

The sun peeked over the snow-capped peaks of the Dolomites and bathed the valley in a warm, golden light. A gentle wind blew through the meadows, where the cows' mountain bells tinkled softly. A peaceful morning atmosphere hung over South Tyrol as a group of hikers made their way to an alpine hut. The air was filled with the scent of alpine flowers, and the chirping of birds accompanied the hikers on their ascent. The winding paths led through lush, green meadows and dense forests. Participants enjoyed the peace and beauty of nature as they climbed higher and higher.

But the middle part of the hike also presented challenges. The paths became steeper, the air became thinner. Clouds gathered and the sky darkened. Suddenly light rain began, followed by strong gusts of wind. The hikers put on their weatherproof jackets and fought bravely through the approaching storm. The mountains that had previously seemed so idyllic now showed their indomitable side. The path became slippery and visibility was limited by fog. Despite the adversities, the hikers were not discouraged. They supported each other, shared provisions and continued on their way. The challenges of the mountain bonded the group together and they learned the true meaning of community and perseverance.

When the hikers finally reached the alpine hut, the sun broke through the clouds again. Exhausted but with a feeling of triumph, they entered the cozy cabin. The innkeeper welcomed them with a warm smile and a traditional South Tyrolean dish. In the evening the hikers gathered around a campfire in front of the hut. Under a sparkling starry sky, a familiar folk song suddenly sounded: “On the Ålm”. The hikers happily joined in, accompanied by an accordion. The melody filled the mountain landscape and seemed to reflect the echoes of the adventures experienced. Together they celebrated their summit victory and the solidarity they had found in the mountains.
