Series title Original Compositions Series
Composer Scheffer, Pi
Difficulty level 5
Duration 12:03
Additional info/contents Pi Scheffer considered Three Inventions (1962) as his best composition for wind band. It is a suite suggesting three imaginary "inventions". In the first part Andante pomposo "Flippant" the composer uses a stirring melody which he had written some time earlier that year as tune for a popular Dutch radio program "Opklaringen" (Bright intervals). The second movement Andante espressivo "Whimsical" does indeed have a capricious character as the title suggests, whereas the final movement Andante "Sort a Mixed up appears to be a kind of musical highlight. This suite has rightly become a standard piece in the original Dutch wind band repertoire of the 20th century.
