Programme notes *: "Firefighters" was commissioned by the Österreichischen Blasmusikjugend (Austrian Association of Youth Wind Band) with their aim of creating new works, especially on the easier side. As well as the musical element of the performance it is essential for the composer to encourage the visual imagination of the predominantly young musicians. "Firefighters" is about members of the emergency services who are responding to a fire alarm at night. The siren can be heard, and the tempo "furioso", as well as several dissonances, give a sense of the drama of the situation. Accents in the percussion, and in the low register, and catchy melody lines, complement one another, creating a picture of fire, water and the fight against the danger. Time for mental cinema - enjoy!
