Literally translated, "challenge" means nothing other than "challenge". Of course, this challenge can be very different, be it sporting, intellectual or musical.
Social networks have given the word "challenge" a special meaning and awareness. A person usually performs an action or activity and then nominates other people to do the same - a kind of bet. Now and then, challenges are also supplemented with fundraising activities: people are asked to donate a certain amount to an organisation after the activity - and if they don't accept the challenge, a larger sum is due.
Overwhelmingly, the focus of a challenge is on fun and social benefit. Often, the activity is then posted on social networks. Even well-known people often take part in such tasks and present themselves.

The present work will probably be the first big "challenge" for some young musicians when they demonstrate their skills for the first time in front of a large audience or even take part in a competition with their orchestra.
