It should have been a straightforward plan. When Seb Hunter turned his back on his cherished record collection in search of more nourishing sounds, rock'n'roll cold turkey was going to be the least of his problems.
His simple aim was to try and feel passionate about classical music, and that meant starting at the very beginning: with a hallucinating German nun.
What followed was a hilarious Euro-odyssey that included twenty different varieties of Austrian sausage, minstrels, eunuchs, several tellings-off and a night on the sauce with an off-duty conductor.
Success in his quest, Seb thought, might confer a degree of grown-up respectability, or even an unlikely air of sophistication. But he didn't realise that a passion for Black Sabbath didn't mean he couldn't also rock out to Bach...
ROCK ME AMADEUS is a laugh-out-loud, passionate, hugely informative read for anyone who has wondered whether classical music is all it's cracked up to be (and is too afraid to ask), by one guy who has bothered to find out. |
