Additional info/contents Did you know that Jingle Bells was originally written for Thanksgiving and, due to its popularity, was also sung at Christmas? James Pierpont (1822-1893) composed the song in 1857 for the pupils of the Sunday School in his parish, to be sung during a Thanksgiving church service. The song proved to be very popular with the children, who were eager to sing it again at Christmas. This hasn't changed – it has become a Christmas standard. The song has been translated into many languages and has also frequently been arranged. Timothy Travis has made a big band version, in which the 'sleigh bells' themselves can of course be heard.
