Additional info/contents	The present symphony, composed in 1794 for the Guard Nationale, is in one movement and in the form of an overture. It was found in the archives of the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris. William A. Schaefer reworked it for modern wind orchestra. During the French Revolution, and in the period immediately following, the many outdoor ceremonial functions led to a concentration of works for band. Many of these were in the key of F because of the use of natural trumpets in that key. The instrumentation included the serpent in addition to the familiar instruments.
