Additional info/contents In his symphonic overture the composer depicts his personal impressions in Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, shortly before the Slovenian revolt against Serbian predominance in former Yugoslavia. He also describes the atmosphere of hope which prevailed there in connection with that irresistible striving for independence.

Alfred Bösendorfer initially portrays the somber and tense atmosphere immediately before the outbreak of hostilities. The concentration of the military in the streets dictated daily life - a rape of a beautiful province with grandiose mountains and a picturesque scenery. ”In some ten years everything here will be like it is in Austria today now: neat cities and villages, colorful facades, flourishing tourism.” These hopes, these desires soon became reality and did not remain a dream only.

The composer therefore dedicated his symphonic overture to the Slovenian people. It is a musical description of the country’s transition to a new era, to a new millenium. Alfred Bösendorfer wishes the Slovenian people good luck and all the best for a better future in a free Europe.
