Additional info/contents Medieval and contemporary modern tonal language combine in this composition, which outlines the relationship between two people to each other, to the world and their creator. Their search and finding, their joy, their dreams and amazement are the elementary, life-affirming content of this programmatic composition.

The majestic introduction is followed by a cheerful, melodic part with very medieval-looking sections, partly tutti, partly solo. The subsequent slow part exudes calm and majesty. Loud timpani beats and brass sounds suddenly interrupt this calm - and then make room for a lyrical part with a solo baritone/tenor horn and intermediate melodies in the wood. This part increases to a full sounding forte in the high brass and trombones. A cheerful Vivo leads back to medieval sounds, but determined by modern rhythms. And finally, “Saga” ends with a lively furioso.

"Saga (ballet music)" by Kurt Gäble: A combination of the Middle Ages and contemporary times

Kurt Gäble, a well-known brass music composer, created "Saga", a work that is fascinating not only in terms of sound but also in terms of content. The connection between medieval and contemporary musical language is reflected in the structure and melody. Gäble uses a variety of harmonies and rhythms that reflect both the tradition and innovation of brass music.

The composition is programmatic and tells a story through the music. The focus is on the relationship and emotions of two people, their interaction with the world around them and their spiritual pursuits. Gäble takes up these themes and sets them to music in a way that takes the listener on a sonic journey.

The music is characterized by melodic lines that often range from dance-like lightness to introspective moments. Gäble creates an atmosphere of storytelling and depth by using different timbres of brass music. The composition contains both dynamic passages and quiet, lyrical sections that reflect the emotional spectrum of the story.

"Saga" explores life-affirming themes: the human quest for connection and fulfillment, the wonder at the beauty of the world, and the spiritual search for meaning. These elementary contents are presented powerfully and touchingly through Gäble's musical language.

The composition "Saga (Ballet Music)" by Kurt Gäble is a remarkable work in the world of brass music that builds a bridge between the past and the present. With her haunting musical narrative and her complex expressiveness, she invites listeners to embark on a journey of emotion and understanding. Gäble's artistic vision gives the music a timeless quality and demonstrates the enduring relevance of the human experience it embodies.
