Programme notes *: Korn composed this symphony as a commissioned work for the "International Festive Music Days Uster" in 1981, an event at which world premieres of selected new wind orchestra compositions take place. Compositions that do not follow the traditional tracks, but rather search for new, individual paths and directions. This search for his own paths connects Korn with the lives of loners who - left to their own devices and without the help of others - search for their own paths and often find new, trend-setting paths. Korn himself writes about this thought: "Individual wolves are sceptics. They seek their own path, filled with deep mistrust of those who pretend to have found the only right one. They fight against the prevailing fashion and often point in the direction of a fashion of tomorrow. Single wolves - my brothers - I salute you!" In Korn's typical style, which still clearly shows the late romantic traces of Richard Strauss, a work was created that represents a synthesis of the musical heritage and new features marked by philosophical influences.
