Additional info/contents Since many centuries Poland boasts a very rich tradition as to Christmas Carols. Some hymns belong to the church music, while others definitely do have a folk music character. I have used both these elements in my suite. The work is dedicated to my good friend Niek Wijns. It was he who suggested me to study the Polish Carols, after he had attended a Christmas service while on holiday in Poland.

The Polish Christmas season is a time of joy, togetherness and festive traditions. One of the most beautiful and captivating aspects of these celebrations is undoubtedly Polish Christmas music. From traditional Christmas carols to festive sounds that capture the magic of the season, music plays a central role in Polish Christmas traditions. In Poland, traditional Christmas carols known as "Kolędy" are sung during the Christmas season. These songs often have a religious background and tell the story of the birth of Christ. They are sung both in churches and in people's homes. Well-known examples of Polish Christmas songs are "Cicha noc" (Silent Night) and "Przybieżeli do Betlejem" (They Came to Bethlehem).

Polish Christmas music is characterised by its unique sounds, which are a mixture of joyful and festive elements. Traditional instruments such as the violin, accordion, clarinet and trumpet are often used to create a warm and festive atmosphere. The music is often dance-like in nature and encourages singing and dancing along. In addition to the traditional Christmas carols, there are also some special Polish Christmas songs and melodies that are known throughout the country. One of the most famous examples is "Bóg się rodzi" (God is born), which celebrates the birth of Christ and is often sung during Midnight Mass. These songs have a strong emotional connection to Polish Christmas traditions and fill people's hearts with joy and gratitude.

Polish Christmas music is more than just an accompaniment to the festivities. It creates an atmosphere of community and connection as people come together to sing and enjoy the songs. The music brings the spirit of Christmas to life and helps to strengthen Polish culture and traditions.
