Additional info/contents There are numerous beautiful works in old English music, of which unfortunately only a few have achieved a greater degree of recognition. For the suite Old English Tunes and Airs, unknown pieces by less famous composers were therefore deliberately selected, although they are in no way inferior in quality to the well-known tunes, airs and voluntaries. Stylistically, they can be classified as belonging to the transitional period between the Baroque and Classical periods. All six short pieces were originally written for organ. Since the sound of both the organ and wind instruments is produced by air and the imitation of solo wind instruments was particularly popular in English organ literature, these works lend themselves especially well to a transcription for wind orchestra. Albert Loritz has arranged the instrumentation in such a way that the suite can also be played by a relatively small ensemble. The minimum instrumentation consists of a complete brass section and 5 woodwind parts, namely flute, 1st clarinet, 2nd clarinet, alto saxophone and tenor saxophone.
