Additional info/contents “Mexican Pictures” is a suite in four movements based on Mexican folk music.
The first movement, “El Butaquito,” is based on a very lively folk song of the same name and is characterized by its many contrasting rhythms.
The second movement, “Romance Mejicano,” creates a peaceful and romantic atmosphere.
The title of the third movement, “Ballaviejo,” means “Ancient Dance,” with the word “ancient” referring to the rhythms brought to the Americas by the black population of Africa.
“La Charreada,” the last movement, represents the popular Mexican rodeo, where the action in the arena is usually supported by instrumental ensembles called “mariacchi.”
