Programme notes *: additional text

As a young man, Francis of Assisi led a carefree, secular life. After a fight between him and Perugia, he was held prisoner in Perugia for over a year. After a serious illness, he vowed to change his life radically, and while in captivity wrote the text to his famous hymn "Canticle to the Sun". Seriously ill, he fought against pain and weakness and still enjoyed the beauty of nature. "Fanfare and Canticle" brings the life views of Saint Francis of Assisi closer in a new way.
