Additional info/contents The story of the origin of Diagram for Symphonic Band is a curious one. André Waignein was enjoying a meal together with his great friend Jean-Marie Vivier - representative director of L'Oréal Belgilux and the same man who made the performance of the famous Cantate aux Étoiles, with 750 performers, possible. Jean Plaquet, an appreciated associate of both gentlemen, was also present. As an acknowledgement, André Waignein wanted to dedicate a composition to the band, where Mr. Vivier has been chairman for 20 years. In connection with this, André Waignein was supposed to receive some extra information about the 120 years old history of this band, which has always been led by a memberof the Vivier family. In a flash, this history was presented : using a diagram, Mr. Vivier drew the power-lines of this more than 100 year old band. And of course, the title was found ! The only thing left to do, was for André Waignein to transform this diagram into music.

The concept of a diagram in music refers to visual representations of musical structures, processes or concepts. Diagrams can be used to analyze, explain, or visualize various aspects of music and serve as a useful tool for musicians, musicologists, and music educators.

There are different types of diagrams used in music to represent different information. Some of the most common types are:

1. Form Diagrams: These diagrams visualize the formal structure of a piece of music. For example, they can represent the arrangement of sections such as verses, choruses, bridges and instrumentals in a song or the structure of movements in a symphony. Shape diagrams can help understand the organizational structure and progression of a piece of music.

2. Harmonic Diagrams: These diagrams show the harmonic relationships between the chords of a piece of music. For example, you can analyze and display the chord progressions in a song or the harmonies in a piece of music. Harmonic diagrams help visualize the harmonic development and chordal structure of a piece.

3. Melodic Diagrams: These diagrams show the melodic structures of a piece of music. For example, they can represent the melodic lines of a song or the themes and motifs in an orchestral composition. Melodic diagrams make it possible to analyze and visualize the melodic development and structure of melodies.

4. Rhythm Diagrams: These diagrams visualize the rhythmic structures of a piece of music. For example, they can represent the rhythmic patterns in a drum groove or the rhythmic figures in an orchestral composition. Rhythm diagrams help to understand and analyze the rhythmic structure and structure of a piece.

5. Formant Analyzes: These charts are often used in music production and recording to visualize the frequency components of a sound or voice. They show the changes in timbre or vowel formants over time and can help analyze and refine the tonal character of a piece of music.

Overall, diagrams in music are a valuable tool for analyzing, understanding and representing musical structures, processes and concepts. By using diagrams, musicians and musicologists can represent and analyze complex musical information in a clear and easy-to-understand way.
