Additional info/contents	In 1972, Dello Joio received a commission from The North Hills School Symphonic Band in Pittsburg. The result of the commission was Concertante for Wind-Instruments. The work is in two contrasting movements, Adagio molto sostenuto, and Allegro con brio. The entire work is based upon the opening twelve-tone statement presented at the beginning of the first movement. This is an unusual work for Dello Joio in that it combines elements of atonality (a technique used by the composer in only three other works) and is based on a original theme. Dello Joio's flirtation with twelve-tone technoque calls to mind a similar (and similarly short-lived) foray by his colleague Aaron Copland.
