Additional info/contents In this piece you can experience the musical visit of the English king to his envoy at Bray Castle in the north of France.

Centuries ago, the castle of Bray, located in the North France, used to be the residence of the governors of the King of England. These governors who referred to themselves as vicars came from clergy, they were dukes, counts or feudal lords. In their own realm they ruled and acted like princes. When the king and his entourage travelled in the area, they were guests and the castle, which, for these stately festivities was decorated lavishly.

1) Health Unto His Majesty
As the vicar was a member of the clergy, the ceremony of welcome which centered around the King and the Queen opened with a solemn procession.
The majestic character of the music conveys this particular atmosphere.
2) Entrance Of The French Guests
The French nobles too were invited. They introduce themselves by their unmistakable merry, sometimes in a frivolous way. While they dance, the trumpeters of the guard, clad in fancy uniforms, sound a festive flourish.
3) Court-Dance
Before the vicar arrives, his guests would dance to the airs of a French minuet and savor tasty wine.
4) The vicar Of Bray
The vicar of Bray, governor of the King of England, enters the scene in all splendor. The court orchestra pays homage to him by playing a dignified anthem.

Bray Castle, also known as Château de Bray, is located in the north of France, in the Hauts-de-France region, in the Oise department. The castle has a long and eventful history that dates back to the 12th century.

The original castle was built by the Lords of Bray, a noble family who had resided in the region since the 11th century. Over time, the castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times, most notably during the Hundred Years' War between England and France in the 14th and 15th centuries.

In the 16th century the castle was taken over by the Boulainvilliers family, who remodeled and expanded the property. The castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style and added gardens and ponds in keeping with the fashions of the time.

In the 18th century, Bray Castle was acquired by the von Clermont-Tonnerre family, who further modernized and embellished the property. They had the castle rebuilt in the classical style and added new wings and buildings.

During the French Revolution, the castle was confiscated by the revolutionaries and declared a national treasure. However, it was later returned to the Clermont-Tonnerre family, who owned the property until the 20th century.

Today Bray Castle is a private estate owned by the von Contades family. It is not open to the public but can be rented for private events. The castle and surrounding gardens are a fine example of French architecture and garden art and a testament to the region's rich history and culture.
